AXA Palace

The project is located in the heart of the new financial district of Milan, near Garibaldi train station and piazza Gae Aulenti. As such it sits at the intersection of the older, traditional Milan and the new “glass and steel” district that has transformed the city.

Our design tries to capture this unique context as well as acknowledging the prominent corner the building stands on.

The building, designed by architect André Straja, is a redevelopment of a 1970s structure. Located in the heart of the Porta Nuova district, renamed the "City of Milan" due to the concentration of bankers and financial professionals, the building stands nine stories tall.

It has been candidate for LEED Italia NC 2009 Silver certification, recognizing its energy efficiency, material selection, project site management, innovation, and environmental quality. The façade is entirely environmentally sustainable, being both recycled and recyclable.

More about this project

"The circular pattern shapes the building, giving life on the upper floors to a dome that houses the boardroom and a terrace with a splendid view of the city. The design of the interiors, by architect Cristiana Cutrona - Studio Revalue, has been taken care of in every detail to provide maximum acoustic and visual comfort of the working environments. The concept of the spaces was designed to initiate a real cultural change within the insurance company, which is to stimulate resourcefulness and collaboration in a national and international context that pushes those who work within it to make their strengths and skills available to the team."

"Given the vast glass surface area with which the building is equipped, it was necessary to identify high-performance screens that at the same time were easy to manage: hence the decision to use "omnitex-sis-rulmot001" motorized blinds in various rooms, in addition to the more classic "omitex-sis-rulcat002" chain blinds. Surrounded by the transparencies of the glass and the other material elements present, the Omnitex filtering and thermo-reflective blinds made of Verosol SilverScreen fabric fit in perfectly, proving indispensable for properly managing the supply of heat and natural light, while also allowing ideal shading of all the rooms in which they were used, including the large glass tower that distinguishes the top of the structure. This technical solution, characterized by a fiberglass-based fabric with PVC-coated yarn, along with the other measures adopted has contributed positively to the building's LEED Gold environmental certification, proof of the high energy performance standards to which the Axa Assicurazioni headquarters meets."
